WAUKESHA, WIS.— A group of Carroll College students will journey to Glendale, Ariz., in late January 2008 to assist the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee in an internship experience of a lifetime.

Nine students were selected to represent Carroll College and support the Host Committee's efforts before and after Super Bowl XLII, which will be played on Feb. 3. These students will assist in a variety of activities with emphasis on sponsorship and marketing, media and public relations, security and operations, and community outreach. Specifically, they will participate in an economic impact study, to be used by the Host Committee in future Super Bowl bids, and a media study, which will consist of tracking stories published about Super Bowl XLII.

Throughout the fall semester, these students prepared for their trip to Arizona. A competitive course was team-taught by seven Carroll faculty and Bob Sullivan, 1980 Carroll graduate and president of the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, via video-conferencing. A pool of 80 candidates was narrowed down to 14 students who enrolled in the course. They learned about economics, communication, marketing, event planning and the history of the Super Bowl. The final project split the class into two groups, challenging the students to promote themselves, Carroll and the Super Bowl. The top students were chosen based on their performance during the semester.

Carroll College and Arizona State University are the only academic institutions in the nation aiding the Host Committee with Super Bowl XLII activities.
