Bebo
users can now share their favourite places from around the world with
their friend's network, both online and on their mobile phones.
London, UK (PRWEB)
January 31, 2008 -- The mobile internet start-up "Rummble", which
provides people with an easier way to discover things that they will
like nearby their location, has extended their service this week to
include Bebo users. Bebo claims 40 million users on their popular
social networking site, all of whom will now have an easier way to
share their favourite places around the world with their friends, from
their Bebo profiles or via their mobile phone.
By adding a Rummble Bebo application to their award-winning software
platform, Beboers can add a little application which shows a map on
their profile and shows their friends not only which countries they
have visited but what they recommend in those countries.
We often resort to asking friends to recommend a restaurant, bar or
other
entertainment, partly because it is one of the most reliable ways
to get a good recommendation because usually we know which of our
friends are reliable for certain types of information. Rummble's
emulates and automates word of mouth recommendations by learning what
you do and don't like and who you do and don't trust in your friends
network. You receive personalised ratings for these "Rummbles" of
information, making results unique and relevant to you. On a mobile,
Rummble say this is far better because you don't want to search through
lots of irrelevant search engine results.
Gemma, a regular Bebo user, was one of the first people to start
using the new Rummble Bebo widget, which was officially launched this
week. "It's great because I got fed up having to record all the places
that I've been to which I like, on bits of paper or in my diary" she
explained. Gemma said keeping all her favourite destinations in one
place has saved her time: "I don't know why, but lots of my friends ask
me where I think they should go … [I suppose it's because I travel
quite a bit and have been a lot of places. Now I just tell them to
check Rummble on Bebo or use their mobile when they arrive where they
are going."
Andrew Scott, Founder and CEO of the UK based start-up says that
they intend to expand their support for other social media sites: "We
already have a Facebook application and in the future we'll be
supporting the new Google Open Social API, which is intended to
standardise the development of applications and bolt-ons to social
networking sites." Andrew believes this opens up exciting new
possibilities. "…we've got users from all over the world on multiple
social networks, but they can all share their Rummbles with each other,
building a digital traveling companion which knows your tastes and
potentially has things you can enjoy from anywhere in the world. With a
travel guide, you are stuck to the size of the book you can carry and
the tastes of the author who wrote it. Rummble is personalised to you -
it's like having a limitless guide book which your friends all wrote
for you knowing what you will and won't like."
With social networking sites continuing to attract millions of users
and with mobile phone subscribers worldwide already over 2.5 billion
(double that of internet users) Rummble is aiming to become the de
facto standard for finding personalised location based recommendations,
all in the palm of your hand.
