San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) -- Tens of thousands of bloggers from all over the world
will write about human rights on Thursday, May 15, as part of Bloggers
Unite For Human Rights, a campaign that recognizing the 60th
anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and drawing
attention to reported and unreported human rights violations all over
the world.
The campaign is being spearheaded by the members of BlogCatalog.com,
the fastest-growing social network for bloggers on the Internet, with
organizational support by BlogCatalog.com; Copywrite, Ink., a strategic
communication and writing services company; and Amnesty International
USA, a worldwide movement that campaigns for internationally recognized
human rights.
"Amnesty International is thrilled to be a part of Bloggers Unite for
Human Rights," said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty
International USA. "Bloggers Unite for Human Rights is a great way to
harness the power of the Internet to make the world a better place."
Amnesty International is promoting the event to hundreds of
thousands of members and providing source material for bloggers related
to: the wrongful imprisonment of journalist Shi Tao in China; the
illegal detentions at Guantanamo Bay; and the continuing murder, rape,
abduction and displacement of citizens in Darfur, Sudan.
"With so many members from all over the world, we anticipate many
bloggers will cover these issues and may even bring to light human
rights abuses that no one has ever considered before," says Antony
Berkman, president of BlogCatalog.com. "In many cases, the first step
to ensuring human rights is to help broaden everyone's understanding of
why all people were born with inalienable human rights -- life,
liberty, and justice -- and that neither governments nor corporations
have the authority to supersede these rights."
On May 15, bloggers and members of the media are asked to help make
human rights the dominant issue on the Internet. Non-bloggers are asked
to leave supportive comments on participating blogs; take action by
writing their congressmen about various human rights issues; and
support the continuing efforts of Amnesty International.
Bloggers Unite For Human Rights is the fourth social awareness campaign
launched by BlogCatalog members in the last year. When BlogCatalog
members were asked what they wanted to focus on for the May 15
campaign, they overwhelming chose human rights. For more information
