What do we Have to do for our Future? Ploen Castle Turns to International Think Tank
KIEL, Germany/PRNewswire/ --- Global Economic Symposium September 3 - 5, 2008
About 300 high ranking experts representing politics, science and
communities will be meeting at the first Global Economic Symposium (GES) to
join forces in coming up with answers and practical solutions pertaining to
global issues. Given the multi-layered causes of global changes, the contents
of the Symposium will include inter-disciplinary discussions of topics such
as climate protection and restructuring of social state systems.
Numerous creative thinkers will participate in the GES. Among the
delegates are Nobel Prize laureates such as Rajendra K. Pachauri, George
Akerlof, Robert Mundell, Edmund Phelps and Michael Spence, who are joined by
EU Commissioners Joaquin Almunia and Danuta Huebner; Turkish Minister of
Economics Mehmet Simsek, Greek Minister of Economy and Finance George
Alogoskoufis, former BP CEO Lord Browne, the General Secretary of UNCTAD
Supachai Panitchpakdi as well as the chief executive officers of numerous
leading international corporations.
It is the aim of the GES to develop common visions for the future and to
come up with ideas for innovative policy and corporate strategies. Even prior
to the event, experts have begun their debate in the "Virtual GES" on the
Internet. The results of these exchanges will provide the basis for decisions
to be made during the Symposium. "The central issue at the GES is: what needs
to be done? The GES is taking a completely novel approach. Unlike other
events of this kind it is simultaneously solution-oriented, research-based
and interactive," explains IfW President Dennis Snower.
The GES 2008 will focus on five core topics: environment, social
security, safety, disparities and growth.
The GES 2008 will be held under the auspices of the President of the
European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso. The organizers are the Kiel-based
Institut fuer Weltwirtschaft (Institute for Global Economy) and
Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Science, Economy and Transportation in
partnership with top sponsors Fielmann AG and Wintershall Holding AG.
