Meijer MealBox Lauded by Internet Retailer
Grocer's Innovative Widget Named To "Hot 100" List Of Retail Websites
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich/PRNewswire/ -- Meijer MealBox, the
time- and money-saving Internet tool that helps shoppers plan their
meals, has been named one of the "Hot 100" best retail websites for
2009 by the industry publication Internet Retailer.
The Meijer MealBox, which debuted early last year, is a novel tool
that allows shoppers to plan a week's worth of meals in minutes, while
offering recipes, daily planners, relevant coupons, nutritional
information and other food-related content. Since its launch, there
have been more than 500,000 unique visitors to the Meijer MealBox
website. Over 100,000 coupons have been printed and more than 150,000
recipes have been viewed.
Internet Retailer's annual list spotlights those companies engaging in
e-commerce that are using the latest Internet concepts and tools to
greatly enhance the web experience for customers. The publication
identified those retailers who have most successfully reached out
beyond their e-commerce sites to connect with consumers.
The MealBox is actually a widget - a web-based, stand-alone tool
that allows customers access to the Meijer database of recipes,
ingredients, coupons, and special promotions via the digital platform
of their choice. The widget can be installed on a customer's own pages
for ease of use, which has been the case for more than 13,000 users.
"The essence of this program is to allow families to shop smarter,
faster and more economically," said Dawn Bronkema, director of
e-commerce for Meijer. "We thought it was going to be a success right
from the start due to its ease of use and the tremendous benefit it
afforded shoppers, and the initial customer response was tremendous.
But it's very gratifying to hear that the industry has seen fit to rank
it among the best innovations of the year. We're very proud of this
program."
According to Internet Retailer, Meijer "has been selling products
online for only about one year, but meijer.com is breaking new ground
with widget technology." The magazine went on to say that the MealBox
"gives Meijer a leg up on its competition."
In its annual list of the 100 leading online retailers, the magazine
points out that a growing number of online retailers are introducing
innovations that go beyond the primary web site, and that these
e-commerce leaders illustrate how websites can be part of forging
personal relationships with consumers.
"We're committed to engaging our shopper in new and unique ways,"
said Bronkema. "We have a tradition of providing innovative, visionary
approaches to improving the shopping and meal-prep experience, and this
is proof of that commitment."
