Consumers Nationwide Weigh in on the Best Products in Hundreds of Categories

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Understanding that consumers are relying on each other more than ever for product recommendations, Buzzillions.com (www.Buzzillions.com), the most comprehensive customer reviews site on the Web, announces the winners of the 2008 Buzzillions Reviewers’ Choice™ Awards. Buzzillions Reviewers’ Choice™ Awards are based on ratings and reviews from real consumers who have purchased and used the product. Unlike other product awards, Buzzillions Reviewers’ Choice Awards are given for “Best Overall” in each category and “Best by User Personality” – based on reviews from like-minded users in that category (e.g. First-Time Parents or Photo Enthusiasts).

This year’s big winners include Step2, North Face, Fisher-Price and Canon, all receiving over 50 awards. Several lesser known brands, such as Hind, Mountain hardWEAR and AmeriBag also received dozens of awards, demonstrating that product quality – not brand name – is of paramount importance to today’s consumer.

Buzzillions Reviewers’ Choice Awards are determined via an extensive survey process. Leveraging its robust network of retail partners including REI, Staples, Toys “R” Us, drugstore.com and Ace Hardware, Buzzillions sends out hundreds of thousands of surveys per day to people who are verified to have purchased a product. Products in each category are then ranked using a special algorithm that incorporates star ratings, number of reviews and the reliability of the reviewers (reviews by “Verified Buyers” are given more weight). The #1-ranked product is recognized as the “Reviewers’ Choice Winner” and the 2nd through 5th ranked products are recognized as “Reviewers’ Choice Finalists”. Awards by “User Personality” are determined using the same algorithm, but are based on feedback from the reviewers who specifically identified themselves with that user personality group.
