Crisp unveil world's first automated user behaviour management tool

Crisp Thinking logoCrisp, the online child protection specialist, has unveiled Automated Behaviour Management (ABM), a unique, risk-management feature for its revolutionary moderation tool NetModerator.

Working in real-time, ABM allows NetModerator clients to automate responses to low-level rule infringements such as sharing phone numbers or profanity, stopping potentially serious offenders from taking root in the game.

“In an industry experiencing enormous user-traffic growth, games providers that can detect, respond and report content violations in real-time will have the edge," says Peter Maude, CTO at Crisp.

"They will be the ones that expand based on their user safety record. NetModerator with ABM is a world first. It takes moderation to a whole new level.

“Now, for the first time, moderators can manage risk effectively, companies can optimise resources and cut the number of moderators engaged in low-level activities.

"ABM lightens the load and drives even higher NetModerator return on investment. But it also ensures the right response every time – an instant, proportionate and consistent response that engenders trust and builds confidence.”

Combined with NetModerator’s highly accurate analysis engine, validated by Cambridge University at 98.4 per cent, ABM dramatically reduces the time needed to monitor the game, successfully removing the ‘white noise’ of low-level events from moderators’ alert queues and leaving them free to concentrate on the most dangerous cases.

Crisp client, Cartoon Network has been the first to implement ABM in their NetModerator platform that protects their MMO FusionFall.

“A safe and active community for our players is one of our top priorities for FusionFall and Crisp has been a fantastic partner,” said Chris Waldron, vice president of gaming for Cartoon Network.

“NetModerator’s ABM allows us to improve our response times in game and is a great addition to their already robust moderating technology we introduced at launch.”

ABM allows moderators to set the system to issue automatic warnings to gamers in real-time when a rule is infringed. The system then takes a stepped-approach: issuing game rules, warning, silencing and ultimately kicking users automatically – with no further intervention from moderators.

If a user persists or NetModerator suspects more serious behaviour such as grooming, self-harm or bullying, ABM escalates the case automatically to moderators for attention. Because ABM works in real-time and monitors all conversations it ensures instant enforcement and a consistent, proportionate response.

By keeping the game flowing, users’ experience is enhanced and user retention is increased. In addition, by automatically issuing a set of rules to users it educates players thereby minimizing the number of users banned and increasing the average revenue per user or ARPU.

ABM provides real-time responses visible to all users. That means it’s a powerful reminder to anyone viewing the game including parents, other children or the media that the game is effectively policed.

NetModerator is the world’s most sophisticated real-time moderation tool and ABM is just one part of the only system worldwide that can monitor and store all communications, analyse ongoing conversations over time, decode content and understand its true meaning. It also blocks in real-time and alerts moderators to a range of threats including self-harm, cyber-bullying and online predators.

“Moderators need time to concentrate on the many very serious issues generated every day in their game – they just can’t afford to spend all day banning or silencing people for swearing,” said Peter.
