BBC Dragon and Meerkat set to go head to head at The Golden Twits

BBC Dragon Duncan Bannatyne and Aleksandr The Meerkat from comparethemarket.com are set to go head to head later this week as part of the UK's first ever Twitter Awards, The Golden Twits.
Fanatical Twitter users and top brands are set to gather at London's popular Fabric nightclub on Thursday to see if their Tweets have been deemed worthy of a prestigious Golden Twit Award.
Regular Tweeters Duncan Bannatyne and meerkat Aleksandr Orlov are both up in the Best Celebrity category and the winner will be announced as part of The Golden Twits awards ceremony this Thursday night.
Other well known UK brands have also gotten in on the Twitter act with footwear retailer Schuh!, Man City FC, Carphone Warehouse, Drayton Manor Park, Keep Britain Tidy and Amnesty International all in the running for prestigious awards.
The event has been launched by media and marketing magazine The Drum to recognise the very best in short form communication and to bring the UK's growing Twitter community together for a great fun night out. The categories that will be awarded on the night include: Celebrity, Private Individual, Corporate Individual, Weird, Craft, Humour, Writing, Pictures, Business to Consumer and others.
The Golden Twits attracted a top line up of judges including Syd Nadim of Clock, Peter Abraham of eConsultancy, Trevor Chambers of Start Creative, Rowan Heasley of Naked Penguin Boy, Mat Morrison or Porter Novelli, Adam Sefton of Reading Room and Ashley Stockwell of Virgin Media.
Speaking of the Golden Twits, Richard Draycott, editor of The Drum, said: "It is fair to say that Twitter is a phenomenon and has certainly changed the way that celebrities and well known brands communicate and interact with fans and consumers. The Golden Twits looks to reward those celebrities, brands and businesses who have really adopted Twitter and are using it successfully to build their profiles and engage with their followers. We hope that this will be the first of many Golden Twits."
Tickets are still available and cost just £20 per person, which includes a free drink on arrival and what promises to be a memorable performance by off the wall comedian Phil Nicol.
