Social network Facebook integrate Microsoft Live Search

Staff (Social Media Portal) - 08 October 2008

Social networking site, Facebook has integrated Microsoft Live Search to Facebook?s existing search solution.  The addition of Live Search means that the Facebook community will have the ability to search both within Facebook and the wider web without leaving the network.

Leah Pearlman, who made the announcement on The Facebook Blog gives examples of how Live Search will enhance the Facebook users experience, ?By integrating web search into Facebook, you can increase the information available to share with your friends, family and co-workers on the site. For example, your friend may invite you to an event at a new restaurant. Without leaving Facebook, you can check out the details of the restaurant on the web. Or, say you see photos in your News Feed about a friend's recent trip to Dubai. Inspired, you can search the web for more information about travel without having to leave Facebook. Along with your search results, you may also begin to see ads for products, services or other things that are relevant to your query.?

Pearlman goes on to say that Live Search?s integration with the Facebook platform will allow for a number of other developments, which they are working on introducing in the future.

This time last year, Microsoft acquired a stake in Facebook for $240 million USD, putting the social network at a reported value of $15 billion USD.  At the time of the investment, Facebook?s vice president Own Van Netta said that the deal did not include web search.
