Best community award goes to knitting and crochet site Ravelry in last nights .net Awards

The .net Awards 2010 last night saw popular social networking site Ravelry win the award for best community site against the likes of social network giant Facebook and micro-blogging site Twitter.

Ravelry .net AwardsThe win comes less than a week after the site for crafters that knit, crochet, spin, weave and dye see their 1 millionth member join.  Ravelry enables members to keep notes of projects, meet like-minded crafters, find the perfect pattern and swap tricks and techniques with the wider community.

Following the handing over of the trophy, @Ravelry tweeted: ?WOW!! Ravelry just won the #netawards Community Site of the Year! Amazing! Thanks to the judges! We love you, Ravelers!?

The awards, held by web design and development magazine .net (by Future Publishing), were held at The Ministry of Sound in London last night (18 November 2010).  Ravelry representative @velvetpurrs was handed the award from comedian Jack Whitehall to a round of applause and a twirl of a hand knitted lace shawl.

Other winners on the night included:

  • Blog of the year: Smashing Magazine
  • Video podcast of the year: The Big Web Show
