Selfies from space: Space agency NASA taps Tumblr to share mission

NASA creates first two official Tumblr profiles for documenting mission training, preparation and space exploration.


Astronaut Peggy Whitson to provide Tumblr behind-the-scenes of the journey at her Tumblr account. Additional space exploration experiences and will be available at the newly created NASA Tumblr profile.

Whitson will share an astronaut?s perspective as she trains for a six-month mission to the International Space Station. There are many people involved in making human journey to the stars possible.  A NASA Village helps train an astronaut and this journey will be shared via Whitson?s account showing her personal and group achievements.

These two official NASA Tumblr profiles will be joined by two dedicated mission accounts. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, manages the Juno and Curiosity missions for the agency's Science Mission Directorate in Washington.  The JunoCam Tumblr will showcase Jupiter images from amateur astronomers and public-processed images from JunoCam on board NASA's Juno mission. The Curiosity rover will share engineering, science and selfies from the surface of Mars.
