Honk Provides Social Networking Tools for USAA?s Car Buying Service

New Capability Lets USAA Members Share Vehicle Reviews and Recommendations

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Honk, the leading social networking automotive platform, today announced its licensing agreement with USAA enabling USAA customers to use Honk?s social networking tools to read and write vehicle reviews and recommendations when using the USAA Car Buying Service.

?often inform others on what to buy?

USAA, which provides insurance, banking, investment and retirement products and services to 7.7 million current and former members of the U.S. military and their families, founded its online Car Buying Service in May 2007 and has since saved its customers more than $50 million on vehicle purchases, including $28 million this year alone. These customers will now be able to see and share their opinions about various car models, searching vehicle reviews by other customers, and receiving vehicle recommendations based on Honk?s extensive opinion database.

?We?re thrilled that USAA, a major innovator in leveraging technology to enhance customer service, is committed to using Honk?s tools to integrate social media into its Car Buying Service,? said Tom Taira, CEO of Honk. ?USAA embraced social media long before the term became popular. Together, we believe we can revolutionize car shopping.?

Honk reflects a growing consumer trend towards relying on social networks of like-minded buyers when making purchase decisions. Personal recommendations from friends and family as well as online consumer reviews rank No. 1 and No. 2 on the trustworthiness scale as information sources, with 80 percent of Americans saying they ?often inform others on what to buy,? according to Universal McCann?s Graeme Hutton in his article, ?The Mouth-Off Multiplier,? in MEDIA magazine.

?Honk?s social platform appeals to our members' affinity for technology and tools that deliver practical insight and inform their decision making,? said Bob Otis, assistant vice president, integrated solutions, USAA. ?Now members can feel even more confident in their choices with relevant information and ease in connecting with friends, family, and other USAA members to share opinions about their car buying decisions and experience.?
