Best of 2011: Web and App Development Are The Top Skills of The Year

Stefanie Kahls (twago.com) - 20 December 2011

  • Knowledge of web development is also one of the most asked for IT skills in 2011

  • Social web programming is in the Top Ten for the first time

  • Demand for iPhone and iPad App-developers is growing steadily

Berlin, 20.12.2011. Expert knowledge of web technologies is, for freelancers and service-providers, the most requested demand in 2011. This is illustrated by a new study ?Top Skills 2011? from the online marketplace twago (www.twago.com), which deals with digital services. The ranking shows that the web development skills PHP, HTML, MySQL, CSS, and Javascript are on the first five positions. Therefore, they are the most requested skills for project-based work in 2011.

Also app-programming for social networks like Facebook and mobile devices ? especially iPhone and iPad ? are requested more and more for IT-projects. Alongside this the development of Apple's iOS gets more important i.e. skills in programming Objective-C are getting more vital in this branch.

The professional use of blog software like Joomla or WordPress is staying as important this year as in 2010. and was even just entering the top skills list in 2011. This is due to the rising degree of popularity for company pages to stay in contact with their customers.

In general in 2011 the job situation for IT-freelancers was very good. ?The request for qualified experts in the field of programming didnīt drop in 2011. For 2012 we are expecting an even higher request. The growth in this market is really impressive?, says Gunnar Berning, founder and Managing Director of twago.

?There has already been a high demand for iOS developers on our projects for some time, and also for Android programmers?, continues Berning. ?Because of the mobile internet trend the demand for App developers is very high. ?Sometimes project-givers may even have to wait until a suitable App developer has a free schedule; especially in Europe, the waiting time is high. But if you have the possibility to also use programmers from different continents the waiting time drops significantly. For an international marketplace like twago this trend is of course an optimal condition?, adds Berning.
