London, UK ---- Tim Gibbon, director at communications consultancy Elemental Communications is to guest speak at SMi Group?s Social Media in the Utilities Sector conference this week.

Organised by publisher SMi Group, it?s the second year for the specialist utilities event and will be held from 15-16 April 2013 at the Copthorne Tara Hotel, Scarsdale Place, Kensington, London in the United Kingdom (UK).

Gibbon is also cofounder and editor of social news and information site the Social Media Portal (SMP), a media partner of the conference, the second time SMP has supported the annual event.

Gibbon, founder of communications consultancy Elemental will be contributing to the panel on Tuesday, 16 April 2013 entitled ?Buy-in from other departments, senior management and the board,? from 15:30 to 16:00.  He will be joined by James Carson of Carson Content and former digital strategist from publishing company Bauer Media.  Both Tim and James will be taking questions from other guest speakers and attendees during the panel.

Gibbon explains, ?There is no doubt that social media usage will continue to grow with agencies, brands and organisations such utilities wanting to get and stay ahead of the curve.  Like other advertising, marketing and/or PR channels - social media will require internal support to be successful.  We often see organisations underestimate the challenges from within, which ultimately has an impact upon the activity and campaigns they manage for publics.?

?Internally support is critical and doesn?t just apply to social media even though it perceived as the latest new development.  Securing ?buy-in,? whether it?s from the board, senior management and/or colleagues is essential and it ultimately boils down to relationships.  We?ll be sharing what we?ve experienced and what has worked for us in addition to what hasn?t - which can equally beneficial,? adds Gibbon.
