Social Media Portal interview with Jarvis Todd about World Telemedia Marbella 2012

Social Media Portal profiled interview with Jarvis Todd, CEO at World Telemedia on the World Telemedia Marbella 2012 conference

World Telemedia logoSocial Media Portal (SMP): What do you do there at World Telemedia?

Jarvis Todd (JT): I?m the CEO at World Telemedia and I am responsible for tracking market trends and directing our specialist media services to continually identify new and profitable vertical sectors for the Telemedia industry.

SMP: Briefly, tell us about World Telemedia Marbella 2012, what is it and when / where is the event scheduled?

JT: World Telemedia is for any business that wishes to connect, capitalise and commercialise the way consumers interact with TV, print, advertised media content, digital brands and social networks ? whilst using their telephones, smartphones, tablets and other ?online? mobile devices.

This major annual event is underpinned by leading international providers that link network delivery, micro billing technologies and other interactive functionality to the ever expanding range of premium services, content and media distribution channels.

It will be held at the fabulous H10 Hotel Andalucia Plaza, Marbella, Spain on the 17th to the 19th October 2012

SMP: Is in conjunction with any other event?

JT: The mAdult Summit (mAS) is a separately branded high level conference, workshop and networking day that specifically addresses how the adult sector can exploit the mobile channel. We?ve been working closely with specialist adult mobile providers to devise some truly unique formats that will help address the key business issues, provide essential information and perhaps more importantly, generate the inspiration to successfully implement mobile into your online business model.

mAS is co-located with World Telemedia  for the first time on the 18th October 2012.

SMP: Who are your target audience and why (and who should attend)?

JT replies with:

?    Media, marketing and data owners
?    Online providers and website owners
?    Premium content publishers
?    App development companies
?    Aggregators and resellers
?    Technology and service providers
?    Billing and collection companies
?    Network operators and ISPs

World Telemedia is underpinned by leading international providers that will be showcasing the solutions, strategies, applications and technologies crucial to:

?    Integrating online and ?on the move? platforms
?    Billing across international boundaries
?    Originating and terminating network traffic
?    Monetising premium content and service
?    Capitalising on mobile marketing and billing
?    Mobilising media, marketing and brands
?    Facilitating interactive media services
?    Audience engagement and data capture
?    Mobilising online (adult) business models

SMP: Why was World Telemedia Marbella started and how long has it been going?

JT: World Telemedia is widely recognized as the leading B2B event and trading exchange for domestic and international providers of premium content, billing and traffic solutions. The events were established in the early 1990s to enable this unique specialised sector to develop new partnerships and routes to market across the telemedia value chain.

SMP: What is World Telemedia Marbella 2012 doing that?s different?

Photograph of Jarvis Todd, CEO at World TelemediaJT: We put the consumer at the forefront of our thinking ? since they?re the ones that effectively control the market. As more consumers use their telephones, mobiles, smartphones, tablets, games consoles and netbooks to interact with TV, print, advertised media content, calls to action and of course social networks ? the ability to connect has never been more strategically important.

World Telemedia is quite simply the only event in the world that brings an industry together with the solutions to enable just that!

We?re also content neutral which allows representatives from a range of sectors to gain a much broader understanding of what?s required. This variety in representation also promotes a range of cross sales / platform opportunities that would not normally exist within the confines of an event that?s simply defined by the distribution channel or content ?type?.

SMP: What will be the highlights at the event?

JT: We?ve already smashed all records for sponsorship; and their generosity has enabled us to translate this into the overall presentation of the show. With delegate bookings also up by an astonishing 40%, I?m looking forward to seeing a big crowd enjoying an abundance of valuable face-to-face opportunities across a range of first class business networking events.

SMP: How are you attracting and attendees to the event?

JT: This year we launched the ?Meet Me In Marbella? (MMIM) campaign; authorising the 1st 200 registered delegates to offer their own names as an Early Bird discount code. This has not only encouraged more pre-show networking but also created a sense of unity across the industry as more people have taken responsibility to spread the word across their business networks.

We?ve also been running trade media in this space for over 16 years so there?s not too many people we don?t have either reading our magazines, newsletters or visiting http://www.telemedia-news.com/

That said we have invested a lot of time and effort this year expanding our reach into unchartered waters thanks to a great line up of media supporters ? such as SMP!

We also practice what we preach and use LinkedIn and of course we?re always working hard to get the most from Facebook and other social business networks.

SMP: What are the most important things that attendees can take away from this event?

JT: Three invaluable days of workshops, meetings, seminars, conference and case study presentations that focus on the strategic issues necessary to capitalise on market trends and advance opportunities in new markets and vertical sectors.

Learn: Uncover the issues, technology developments and trends that are shaping the telemedia industry, through panels, presentations and the ancient art of conferencing

Discuss: Join your industry peers to discuss, debate and shape the key issues facing the telemedia industry in a series of roundtable discussions

Inspire: Success stories that illustrate innovative use of technology and new market opportunities are presented throughout the show in the ?Case Study Theatre? in the expo hall

SMP: What are the low moments of what you have been doing so far (regarding the event)?

JT: Just the hangovers each time I?ve visited the party venues in Puerto Banus! Actually, this has been a very straight-forward event to sell because the timing seems perfect and Marbella has never been used for a trade show of this type!

SMP: What are the high moments of what you have been doing so far (regarding the event)?

JT: Breaking some new records in terms of delegate registrations and sponsorship, has been particularly satisfying. We had a great show in Amsterdam 2011, but we eclipsed all previous sales records months ago! For the first time in 16 years we?ve filled all three Platinum Sponsors slots and I?m particularly grateful to International Premiums, Worldwide Premium Telecom and Goldex Telecom for really stepping up and supporting the event so strongly.

SMP: How can agencies and brands get involved in World Telemedia Marbella 2012?

JT: The standard rate ?340 includes access to all seminars, networking events and two course lunch on both days. So to get involved, simply register at www.wtevent.co.uk.

SMP: Have you any early birds discounts (if so when does it end)?

JT: These are no longer available, but the price will increase for ?on the day? registrations ? unless, of course, you?re a subscriber to SMP.  To qualify for a special Early Bird discount rate of ?280, SMP subscribers will need to register here using the code WTEB2012.

SMP: Why is mobile such an important talking point and why will it continue to be throughout 2012?

JT
: Its ubiquitous nature and the fact that mobile / tablets have become the consumers second screen when interacting with all forms of media and content ? make it the most important piece of commercial technology in the market. Having said all that, World Telemedia takes a holistic view of the way consumers connect in a variety of different economic environments. This means that regular fixed line telephones and good old fashion mobiles also have a big part to play in a variety of markets around the world and as part of a range of profitable media / content services.

Since World Telemedia has a very strong focus on the network side of the interactive market, mobile traffic is of course becoming a very valuable commodity. World Telemedia has been providing a operators with a traffic trading exchange since the early 1990s ? and will continue to do so in Marbella.

SMP: Is there anything else you?d like to add?

JT: As always, we?re most thankful to the supporters (continued and new) of World Telemedia. We?re looking forward to soaking up the wisdom of this year?s speakers and panellists:

SMP: When and where did you go on your last holiday?

JT: Austria skiing ? can?t remember the town right now but there was more snow than I?ve ever seen in my life this year.

SMP: What?s the first thing you do when you get into the office of a morning?

JT: Delete all my junk mail  ? isn?t that what everyone does these days?
