Current?s president of new media, Joanna Drake Earn says that the current way people are digesting news no longer meets readers needs.  She explains, ?Generic news feeds aren?t enough anymore: people want content that?s been personalized, ideally by their friends. Current is offering news and content in a way that reflects the nature of social networks, through an automatic filtering process that happens through sharing.?

Once the Current News application has been added to a profile, Facebook users will be shown a list of their friends who are already using the application and can choose to have them act as their news editors.   When news is delivered, a voting option will allow users to influence the news their friends are seeing.

At the time of writing, the Current News application had over 65 users.

Current syndicates news through distribution partners such as Time Warner, Comcast, BSkyB and Virgin Media.
