Social Media Portal (SMP) competition seeks favourite social networks
A Social Media Portal (SMP) competition is seeking to find users favourite social networks
20 October 2007, London, UK ---- The Social Media Portal (SMP) (http://www.socialmediaportal.com) competition is seeking to uncover which is the world?s favourite social network and why.
SMP maps networks and the landscapes they create from around the globe, and is the creation of UK-based media consultancy Elemental (http://www.elementalcomms.co.uk), which they launched at ad:tech London 2007 in September.
SMP allows brands, agencies and users to visually navigate through the social media landscape and find sites that are of interest. It highlights the varying relationships between sites, technology providers and site owners and is free for people to register and add their site to the Social Media Landscape.
The competition, which participants can enter at http://www.socialmediaportal.com/adtech asks the simple question, ?What is your favourite social network and why?? The SMP Competition will remain open for entrants from around the world until 26 October 2007.
Prizes for SMP?s first competition are:
1. Nintendo Wii plus SMP Gold Membership
2. Squeezebox plus SMP Silver Membership
3. £50 iTunes Voucher plus SMP Bronze Membership
Designed and developed by Australian-based web agency C2 (http://www.c2.net.au), SMP encompasses the role of social networks, user generated content (UGC), blogs, podcasts, search engines and other technology like instant messenger. SMP's Landscape will continue to grow on a daily basis, as social media companies and blog owners are encouraged to add their sites for free for an unlimited period.
Tim Gibbon, director at Elemental comments, ?With the rapid rate in which social media and networks are growing, users are bombarded with new services whilst established networks vie for their commitment. The SMP competition allows users to get a little bit vocal and express what works for them ? some of the answers that have come through so far are very interesting. A summary of the results will be released after the competition has closed and the winners notified.?
?Many social networks can be equated to a bar, club or any other social environment in that they can have their time and change dramatically when dynamics and flavour shifts. In the case of social networks, it could be factors such as policy changes, advertising, sponsorship and/or the resource just running it course which could see an audience migrating elsewhere when it?s not the most popular place to be and interact with peers.
What?s popular today in this space certainly isn?t clear cut tomorrow in this space and that?s what makes it so challenging for site owners. Our competition seeks to tap into what users prefer any why in real time, and in their own words,? adds Rachel Hawkes, account director at Elemental, who led the development of the SMP.
