Social game developer wooga (world of gaming) has overtaken two US competitors to become the world’s fifth largest developer of social games, according to independent Facebook metric service Appdata.com. These latest statistics have propelled the German company into the elite of social gaming companies with over 18 million monthly users, demonstrating the newly global nature of the industry.

By focusing on developing games with engaging, memorable characters and easy-to-learn mechanics, wooga has found a successful formula in a field that many have claimed is already saturated. This, combined with a commitment to language localization (currently Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Turkish, German, Italian and English), has helped wooga produce massive growth and a loyal following from across the globe.

Today also marks another milestone in wooga’s ascent as it launches it latest game: Diamond Dash.  Diamond Dash is a fast-paced arcade puzzler with simple to learn, but hard to perfect, gameplay, set inside an immersive world.  The game gives you just 60 seconds to match as many gems as possible in a heart-pounding, race-against-time.  Diamond Dash was developed by the same team behind Bubble Island - the second most popular arcade game on Facebook.

“This is the next evolution in arcade-style gameplay on Facebook,“ said Jens Begemann, Founder and CEO of wooga. “Diamond Dash is an addictive, arcade puzzle game that will keep people coming back for more.  After the success of Bubble Island, I can easily foresee Diamond Dash being another major hit.”

After Diamond Dash, wooga plans to release two more games in 2011.
