Hong Kong ?? Over 8,000 international attendees packed the two-day event Cloud Expo Asia and Data Centre World, Hong Kong 2017 which took place at HKCEC on the 24th and 25th May despite the black rainstorm on the first day. In its second year in the North Asia market, the event brought together an impressive line-up of over 250 world-class speakers and an innovative, multi-faceted vendor community.

Highlights on the second day of the event included a keynote address from J.J. Jeyappragash, Engineering and Product Lead, Cloud Infrastructure Management at Twitter. The expert spoke to a security-conscious audience about the application of Identity Access Management (IAM) in a hybrid cloud environment and discussed next-generation security models which span across interoperable clouds.

The Oracle Cloud Innovations, Services and Applications Theatre featured a session delivered by Chee Keong Law of Google Cloud Platform, which discussed how cloud-native incumbents and disruptors are building themselves as platform-based businesses by using APIs and taking a cloud-first approach.

The second day also included packed sessions at the new for 2017 Smart IoT Hong Kong event. The conference stream featured an expert line-up of speakers who discussed the growing Internet of Things revolution and advised on how best to harness valuable and actionable insights from big data and analytics projects. A panel discussion brought together IoT leaders, including representatives from Microsoft Hong Kong and Bosch (APAC), who suggested the most effective ways to build a better society through IoT applications.

The Cloud Security conference also attracted great enthusiasm from visitors. A session delivered by Christopher Church of INTERPOL advised the audience on how to tackle the security challenges presented by the cloud in corporate environments, particularly with emerging collaboration and BYOD trends.

Exhibitors at Data Centre World included leading regional and international brands such as Eaton, Emerson, Panduit, Service Now, Schneider Electric and many others, all sharing their expertise on a range of solutions and topics including DCIM, energy efficiency, facilities management and security.

A first for 2017, the Live Green Data Centre showcased best-in-class designs from leading suppliers, giving attendees first-hand experience of the latest data centre solutions operating in harmony alongside each other.
