Anyone can write a press release for search engines - even a business that doesn't have a web site. Most people only think of targeting the media but there are now many audiences - including buyers. Press releases have gotten a bad name with the media. However, the traditional press release has found new life online.

An online press releases is now part of a content marketing and SEO strategy to bring traffic and visibility to a company. A successful press release has a strong story and is shared and linked to. It's picked up by the media or through social media and bloggers. Done right, a press release continues to bring new traffic to web sites.

"Today's press release is an online marketing tool that can drive business and leads long after the news has gone stale. It's not the same press release that the media gets and deletes upon contact," Thaeler explains.

Online a press release can be multimedia rich with video, images and links. Adding these features makes the news come alive. "Too many companies use a press release to brag and talk about themselves. If you lead with a strong story first, then people will care what you have to say," said Thaeler. There are ways to capture traffic rather than having to create it from nothing.

Attendees can enter to win a copy of Thaeler's book, "I Need a Killer Press Release, Now What??" They will also receive a free white paper about online press releases and a press release template to follow when writing a press release.
